As part of the Lines of Control project, a series of screenings and talks takes place at The Royal Geographical Society between July to September, 2007.
July 19: Sophie Ernst talks about her work in progress, Home: People from Bangladesh, Pakistan and India talk about the homes they left behind at Partition. The visuls show hands drawing, shaping and erasing lines that sketch out the the house in question. Accompanied by emotionally loaded voices, each sequence explores individual notions of the ideal.
August 2: Temporary Loss of Consciousness. Directed by Monica Bhasin, (New Delhi): This poetic essay film explores displacement and the futility of borders in the conditions created by the Partition of the Subcontinent, criss-crossing the boundaries of internal and external spaces of people in exile.
September 5: A Season Outside. Directed by Amar Kanwar (New Delhi): this film is a personal and philosophical journey through past generations, conflicting positions, borders and time zones. In association with the Whitechapel Gallery - Amar Kanwar features in the Whitechapel Laboratory programme, 2007.
